Around 2.800 companies operate as impact entrepreneur and around 7.600 companies take part in initiatives around impact. Together, over 10.000 companies work on impact entrepreneurship.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">An overview:<\/span><\/p><ul><li><strong>108.000<\/strong>\u00a0companies work on societal impact in any form<\/li><li><strong>20.000<\/strong>\u00a0companies mention they support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG\u2019s)<\/li><li><strong>13.700<\/strong> organisations are active in over 100 impactprograms<\/li><li><strong>2.815<\/strong> impact first-companies put their societal mission central<\/li><li><strong>47.000<\/strong> companies are active in over 600 programs involving sustainability<\/li><li><strong>13.000<\/strong> companies are innovative in sustainable energy, circular economy or social impact<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Over 5 times higher than average:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>number of jobs in companies that work on social impact, the SDG&#8217;s or sustainability<\/li><li>share of scale-ups at companies that work on the SDG&#8217;s or sustainability<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"705\" data-end=\"813\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\"><strong>Almost 10 times higher than average:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li data-start=\"705\" data-end=\"813\">share of scale-ups at companies that work on social impact<\/li><\/ul><p>For more information, read the <a href=\"https:\/\/social-enterprise.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/WEB.-13960-City-Deal-Impact-Ondernemen_Impact-Agenda-2030-A4-1-1.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">impact agenda 2030<\/a>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1979b71 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"1979b71\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Analysis<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7101878 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7101878\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The Netherlands works on a sustainable economy in various ways. Companies work on specific solutions on circularity or social impact, embrace the SDG\u2019s (Sustainable Development Goals) or work on other sustainable solutions. The government, knowledge institutions and societal organizations support these companies through a number of instruments and initiatives, such as subsidies, startup programs, networks, awards or certifications.<\/p><p>Innovatiespotter maps different organizations to get a better view of the state of impact entrepreneurship in the Netherlands. On one side the company landscape: with machine learning, we classify all Dutch companies on innovation and sustainability and classify them in 11 innovation themes, among which is social impact. On the other side we map the innovation ecosystem: the participants of over 2.000 initiatives such as subsidies, startup programs, networks and sustainability certifications.<\/p><p>This analysis contains 2 parts:<\/p><ul><li>Demand, supply and match<\/li><li>Dutch hotspots<\/li><\/ul><p>Together these two parts give a detailed overview of impact entrepreneurship in the Netherlands.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3d999d0 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"3d999d0\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-281ba3f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"281ba3f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>We analyse impact with three questions:<\/p><p><strong>The demand<\/strong><\/p><ul><li><strong>Companies: <\/strong>How many companies are in this theme?\u00a0<\/li><li>Are they participating in the ecosystem?<\/li><li>How many companies miss opportunaties?<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>The supply<\/strong><\/p><ul><li><strong>The innovation ecosystem<\/strong>: What does the ecosystem look like and what companies are reached?<\/li><li>What relevant companies are being missed?<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>The match<\/strong><\/p><ul><li><strong>Companies and ecosystem<\/strong>: How well do supply and demand align?<\/li><li>Do thematic initiatives in fact reach the innovative companies?<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d05dd15 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"d05dd15\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c7341b6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c7341b6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3>Datasets<\/h3><p>To answer these questions, we have created and compared two datasets.<\/p><p><strong>Dataset 1, Companies:<\/strong> Innovatiespotter classifies all Dutch companies on innovation and sustainability with machine learning. There are two selections:<\/p><ul><li>All Dutch companies (the basis)<\/li><li>Innovative companies within the theme Impact: companies that work on thematic innovations.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Dataset 2, Innovation ecosystem:<\/strong> Innovatiespotter tracks over 2.000 innovation- and sustainabilty ecosystems and matches the participants to individual companies. Two selections are available:<\/p><ul><li>The entire innovation ecosystem: over 2.000 initiatives<\/li><li>The thematic ecosystem: initiatives that focus primarily on impact<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-df1ea93 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"df1ea93\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-269e22f elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"269e22f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Impact<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b1b2e84 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b1b2e84\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Social Impact (social innovation) focuses on challenges such as workforce participation, equal opportunities, health and wellbeing. Companies that innovate, develop products or services support an inclusive society.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bc4ca25 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"bc4ca25\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-01d86e6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"01d86e6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The demand: impact companies<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-70ab377 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"70ab377\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bd8d1a9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"bd8d1a9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The analysis shows that 2.815 companies in the Netherlands work on social innovations (2025). Around 58% of those are also part of the innovation ecosystem (1.636 companies). Around 42% do not show participation in the ecosystem (1.179 companies).<\/p><p>There is a difference in company size:<\/p><ul><li>Companies active in the ecosystem: <strong>64 employees<\/strong> on average<\/li><li>Companies without visible participation: <strong>42 employees<\/strong> on average<\/li><\/ul><p>Companies in the ecosystem are over 1.5 times bigger.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-248191d e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"248191d\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2264329 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"2264329\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The supply: the social innovation ecosysteem<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-33fc6af e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"33fc6af\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-478f40c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"478f40c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Of the 2.000 researched initiatives, <strong>103<\/strong> are primarily focused on social innovations or societal impact:<\/p><ul><li><strong>42 networks<\/strong>, such as: Future Up, SDG Nederland and Social Enterprise<\/li><li><strong>15<\/strong> <strong>awards<\/strong>, such as Diversiteit in bedrijf en Social Enterprizes award<\/li><li><strong>2<\/strong> <strong>startupprograms<\/strong>\u00a0Social grow sessions and Green PAC iLab<\/li><li><strong>20<\/strong> <strong>subsidies<\/strong>, such as: Actieplan Laaggeletterdheid\/Tel Mee Met Taal and subsidieprogramma fonds bestrijding kinderarbeid.<\/li><li><strong>24<\/strong> <strong>other<\/strong> <strong>initiatives<\/strong>, such as: PSO Nederland, UN Global Compact Participant, Rubio Impact Ventures and B-corp Nederland<\/li><\/ul><p>Together these <strong>103<\/strong> initiatives reach <strong>7.600<\/strong> participating companies. On macrolevel this seems relatively low. Moreover, the ecosystem is fragmented: 7.600 participants on 103 initiatives averages <strong>74 participants per initiative.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cfc8bc4 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"cfc8bc4\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f4b3442 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"f4b3442\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The match: does the social ecosystem reach their target group?<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6bbde24 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"6bbde24\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6972c8f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6972c8f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Around 58% of the 2.815 innovative social impact companies is active in one of the 2.000 initiatives. If we look at just the 103 social initiatives, it\u2019s around 30%: 847 companies. The 103 initiatives also reach companies outside the target group. Companies that work on both social innovations and take part in social initiatives, can be seen as frontrunners on social innovation.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bf7389d e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" Examples include reintegration into employment, inclusive employment, poverty reduction, circular production and affordable healthcare. In some regions, social impact companies cluster, often around active networks and collaborations.
